Possible Megumi Yokota Sighting

"The Japanese government is trying to verify information reported by a South Korean weekly magazine that a woman believed to be abductee Megumi Yokota was living in Pyongyang as recently as 2005.North Korea has admitted that its agents abducted Yokota in 1977 when she was 13 years old, but claimed she committed suicide in 1994.The Weekly Chosun, in its edition which went on sale Nov. 7, said a 2005 directory of Pyongyang's 2.1 million residents compiled by the reclusive country's security apparatus listed a woman who was likely Yokota.The birthdate listed for the woman is the same as Yokota's and the name of her husband matches that of the man she is said to have married.From citizen ID numbers, the article also deduced that the name of the individual who can be assumed to be the daughter of the woman was Kim Eun Gyong, the same name as Yokota's daughter."

In 2002, North Korea returned five of the abductees but said the others had died, in some cases under circumstances that the Japanese considered to be mysterious or far-fetched. The lack of information has fostered a feeling in Japan that some of the abductees may still be alive.
