Suicide in Japan Revisited
Another follow-up to previous posts on suicides in Japan.
“There were 2,494 suicides in Japan in November, putting total suicides for the year over 30,000 for the 12th straight year, according to National Police Agency statistics released Friday.
Suicides in Japan from January through November this year stand at 30,181, and if December suicides continue at the same pace, 2009 will see more people take their own lives than the 32,249 who did last year, though less than the 34,427 who committed suicide in 2003 — the highest number since 1978, the first year for which statistics are available.
The rising number of suicides can be seen as stemming from economic factors, particularly the deepening of the financial crisis from October 2008 onwards.” The article continues here.
