L-O-V-E
Here’s a rare track of a Nat King Cole favorite in Japanese. In 1965, Hibari Misora「美空ひばり」covered Mr. Cole’s hit song “Love”「ラヴ」and in return, Mr. Cole did a version in Japanese.
Hibari-san recorded approximately 1,200 songs and sold 68 million records before her death in 1989. I believe the total number sold currently is close to 90 million. Check out Misori-san’s version of L-O-V-E below:
As a side note: I use to watch Hibari-san’s adopted son, Kato Kazuya, on the television program モーニング娘 (Money no Tora). He was usually a pretty nice guy and often provided seed money for those looking to start a business.
In this episode [5:40 mark], however, he gently berates a guy for submitting a bad business plan. Kato-san grew up with the most famous diva in Japan and I am sure he picked up a few lessons on making money. Anyway, enjoy the songs and for those studying Japanese, the Money no Tora clip provides some fun transcription practice.
