Here is an interesting video that deals with “being different” in Japan. Steve points out that “the young lady is not a foreigner: not Dutch nor American nor ‘hafu’. What she is is a tall Japanese woman. and lots and lots of people have something to say about it. So — once and for all — does the presenter.”  Please be sure to comment on the video?By the way, there is an anime called Lovely Complex which is a love story between a boy and a girl. The girl, Risa Koizumi, is 172 cm tall – much taller than the average Japanese girl. The boy, Atsushi Otani, is 156 cm – way below the height of the average Japanese boy. Because of this, they are known as their school’s comedy duo because there is a popular comedy duo that has a similar height difference. So people also call them “All Hanshin Kyojin (giant)” team.

One notable fact about Lovely Complex is that instead of speaking standard Japanese, almost all characters speak in Kansai-ben, the Kansai dialect of Japanese (the story takes place in the Kansai region). While having one or two characters speaking Kansai-ben is common in many anime shows, having all characters doing so is unusual.
